Vermont

Jeremiah is the President of the New United States of America and one of the major characters in the Steel Ball Run during Magical Girl Ärztinnen Season 1.5. He seeks the dominance of the NUSA Empire and seeks to achieve the means to do so.

Bio

Appearance

Jeremiah appears to be a young man, sporting brown hair. His age is unknown, but he is older than he appears.

You can usually find him wearing some sort of suit, with at least one gun on him.

Personality

Jeremiah is a pragmatic person, who seeks stability and safety for his empire. He is willing to play both sides to get what he wants, though there is a limit to what he will do. While some may view him as a ruthless warmonger due to how he rose to power, he truly does care about the people under him.

Backstory

It started in 20XX, with the fall of the world's governments. In the aftermath of the magical girl wars, modern society collapsed, and in its place anarchy rose. Brutal Warlords rose up and seized control of the world. It was in these ashes that Jeremiah rose to prominence.

Rising as the 14th great warlord in the ruins of America, gaining the nickname “Vermont”, he took control of large amounts of territory. He wasn’t satisfied with just this though, as he had grander dreams, dreams to reunify America, and beyond.

There were many names for the ensuing wars. The New Civil War, the Wars of Conquest, Manifest Destiny, though most just call it the Reunification Wars. Sweeping along the east coast, Jeremiah carved a bloody path, with opposing warlords dying, joining him, or fleeing west. Jeremiah temporarily stopped his expansion west, building up his home base in an effort to improve the quality of life in his territory. Despite halting his expansion, he was not idle.

He saw that the remaining great warlords were gathering their forces in a grand alliance to defeat him, and he sought to curb them as well. It was then that he announced the formation of the New United States of America (NUSA), with him as its President for Life. He reformed the defunct government agencies to greater heights than before, including the intelligence services. It was with these crucial organizations that he was able to slow the formation of the Great Warlord Alliance. Through their operations, the alliance saw discontent grow throughout their ranks and even their territories, with large swathes of people migrating towards the newly formed NUSA, leaving massive labor shortages in Alliance territories. While the details are classified on what exactly happened, Jeremiah himself has stated that he would not have been able to win without their assistance.

This lull in fighting would not last forever, as despite hindrances from the NUSA, the Alliance was able to muster their army, and marched onwards towards the NUSA. The armies of the NUSA marched in defiance of the alliance, ready to defend their homeland. By all means, the battle of the Appalachian Pass, what should have been a decisive victory for the Alliance, should not have been a victory for the NUSA. While highly trained and in a defensible position, NUSA forces were outnumbered four to one, as the Alliance forces had pulled a feint. Intelligence had indicated that Alliance forces would attack both the Pass and through the Southeast. Instead, the Alliance focused all of their forces on the pass.

It was a hard-fought battle, and it was here that Jeremiah unleashed his secret weapon, his newest branch of the armed forces, the Mage Corps. After the magical girl wars, the reputation of magical individuals had hit an all-time low. Some had said they would have been better off if they had just stayed in the shadows like they used to. It didn’t help that there were many brutal warlords that had magical powers, damaging their image even further. But Jeremiah saw the potential of the mages. He instituted sweeping reform in the NUSA to end the discrimination of mages, and formed, in secret, the elite Mage Corps. The pass was their first major deployment, and they were the keystone to the NUSA victory. With the majority of the Alliance forces defeated and routed, the NUSA swept through the rest of America and what was once Canada and Central America. South America, Hawaii, and the Caribbean soon followed.

It was then that Jeremiah halted his expansion of the NUSA, focusing on expanding the civilian sector and finding ways to relieve the impending resource and food shortages. It would be some years later that he learned about the Symbol Corpse Parts. To mask what he was doing from foreign spies, he announced a great race, spanning from the top of Alaska to the very tip of Chile. He participated in the race himself, which is where he met and became part of the cast of Sym-Tan. This race would come to be known as The Great Symbol Race.

The Great Symbol Race saw three major events happen. The Great Symbol Legal Battle, which saw Jeremiah play the part of a hidden antagonist, assisting on the side of Net, although eventually helping Symbol slightly in the end.

The second was the Magification of the world, which saw a backroom deal take place between Symbol and Jeremiah, in which Jeremiah took control of ⅓ of the Magical Corpse pieces, on the condition of using them to turn the world into magical girls and boys. This caused many unexpected variables in the rest of the race, but the NUSA was able to quell nationwide unrest caused by this. The same could not be said about the rest of the world.

The last was the High-Stakes Uno game, which occurred at the end of the race. This was between the remaining participants of the race, who had, together (but separately), collected the rest of the corpse parts. Since they all sought the power of the remaining pieces, they decided to settle the ownership of the pieces in a High-Stakes game of Uno. It was here, in a dramatic victory, that Jeremiah won, securing the rest of the pieces for himself and the NUSA.

While he could have used the Magical Corpse parts to restore the world to its former glory, Jeremiah saw that this would cause more problems than it was worth, and would not have fixed the rampant shortages plaguing the world. It was then he decided to use the corpse parts to allow him and the NUSA to expand into the multiverse. His newfound powers saw him restore order and conquer the rest of the world, and now there are NUSA expeditions to other worlds forming.

Powers

  • Magical Boy Power - Army Commander: The power Jeremiah gained from the first part of the Symbol Corpse is unique, and befitting of a military commander. He is able to create and summon military personnel, vehicles, equipment, and supplies. This power has been strengthened by the rest of the Symbol Corpse pieces, reducing the times needed to summon things, and more importantly, allowing his forces to open portals to the wider multiverse.
  • Recurring character: Jeremiah has the strange ability to not die when he is killed. Just when you think you got him, he returns a few episodes later. This led to his unique habit of leading dangerous missions from the front. While he has lessened this habit after taking formal control of the NUSA, he will still occasionally take charge on the battlefield.

Trivia

  • Several government agencies are slightly different than what they were before the collapse. For example, there is the Supreme Court, the Interdimensional [formerly intercontinental] Security Agency (ISA), and the Interdimensional [formerly Internal] Revenue Service (IRS).
  • The car Jeremiah used in the Great Symbol Race was a mix between a Humvee and an armored limousine. It was destroyed and rebuilt during the race 4 times.
