To avoid overwhelming your mind with the full might of an entity you have limited access to all of your functions at the start.
Over time, your awareness will expand and you will be able to access all of your functions. How long this process takes depends on how well you adapt to your new form. The minimum time is six months.
You can still access all of your Shards through your Avatar but you cannot micromanage your collective. Your Administration Shards will handle it for you.
You will be projected into a virtual starship bridge from where you can command your crew. Your administration Shards will fill the role of bridge crew while the rest of your collective will take on various postings around the ship that matches the functions.
